History of World Moo Duk Kwan
Moo Duk Kwan is the name of a martial arts organization founded by Hwang Kee in Korea in 1945. Authorized Moo Duk Kwan schools teach Soo Bahk Do, formerly Tang Soo Do (and formerly 'Hwa Soo Do'). ‘Moo Duk Kwan’ translates as “School of Martial Virtue”.
Soo Bahk Do is a Korean martial art, which originates from Korea (Silla dynasty, 618 – 935 AD). Until the founding of the Moo Duk Kwan School in 1945 and the Soo Bahk Do Association in 1960, this Martial Art had been transmitted only orally, from family to family. The history of modern Soo Bahk Do is inextricably linked to the life of Grandmaster Hwang Kee. He was active until he got old, though he only taught a few students in the end. Soo Bahk Do now has more than 50,000 Dan-Members and hundreds of thousands of active students all over the world.
World Moo Duk Kwan Korean Soo Bahk Do Association is the organization to which all federations and members around the world are affiliated.
